Waiting List Update

The Maine Centralized  Section  8/HCV Waiting List is periodically updated and purged in order to keep applicant information current and to remove applicants who are no longer interested. Please be sure to periodically check your application to make sure your information is current. Applicants that do not respond to an Update mailing will be removed from the waiting list. It is very important that your mailing address be up to date at all times.

Applicants that have not updated their application have a temporary inactive status* on the waiting list and may be withdrawn from the waiting list if no update is received before the deadline stated on your letter.

*Inactive status means that an applicant has not made any recent required updates to their application. PHAs may not be able to rank inactive applications accurately without updated information and may not be able to contact applicants without current contact information when they have vouchers available.

How to Update your Application:

  1. Applicants can update their applications online by visiting: www.affordablehousing.com/update
    • You must create a new username and password to access your existing application.
  2. Download a copy of the paper application and mail it to the address listed on the update form or drop off at a participating housing authority office.

Maine Section 8/HCV Centralized Waiting List Update Process

  • All applicants are encouraged to check on their application every 90 days.
  • If no updates or confirmation that your application is current is made, you may be contacted by email and text message (if signed up for text alerts) encouraging you to check on your application.
  • Applicants that have not updated their application in over one-year will receive a notification by email and text message (if signed up for text alerts) with a deadline to complete an update. If no update is received after two weeks, a notification will be sent by First Class Mail via the United States Postal Service.
  • Applicants who fail to respond to a request for updating their application by the specified deadline mentioned in their letter will be removed from the Maine Section 8/HCV Centralized Waiting List.

What if your application was removed from the waiting list?

The Maine housing authorities have changed the software used for the waiting list and requested that all applicants update their application. We sent all applicants emails and two mailings to let them know about the need to update their application in the new software starting in November 2021 thru April 2022. If your application was removed, you are still able to reinstate your application to the original date and time by completing a Reinstatement Request Form. If you fully complete this form and send it back as soon as possible, your application will be reinstated to the waiting list.

  • Do not submit a new application. Your previous application will be reinstated to the original date and time.
  • We will notify you by phone, email, or mail about your reinstatement request and when it has been completed.
  • Reinstatements will take approximately 1 week after it is received but may take up to 1 month to complete
